Sir Thomas Malory

Sir Thomas Malory, author of "Le Morte d’Arthur", died on March 14, 1471.  Walter Scott read this work, and according to “Sir Thomas Malory: the critical heritage” by Marylyn Parins, enjoyed the work more and more with each reading.

‘Walter Scott (1771  1832) was making notes on the Morte Darthur as early as 1792 and, during the first decade of the nineteenth century, planned at intervals to bring out a new edition.  Washington Irving, who visited Abbotsford in 1817, records that an evening’s entertainment consisted of Scott’s reading aloud from Morte Darther.  Like Saintsbury’s, Scott’s remarks became increasingly more appreciative.’
